Visa and arrival card

Entering Taiwan: visa-free stays and the arrival card

Passports from most of Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Korea get up to 90 days without a visa; Malaysia and Singapore, 30 days. Everyone who enters this way fills in a free online arrival card first.

The arrival card (TWAC)

  • Since 2025-10-01 the online card has replaced the paper one. Submit it within 7 days before you arrive, the day of arrival included.
  • It is free. The official site never asks for a card number or any payment; a site that does is not the government's. twac.immigration.gov.tw
  • Every traveller needs their own, children and babies included. Have your passport, an email address, your occupation and phone number, and your flights and where you are staying.
  • A family member or travel agent may submit it for you. One person can register up to 10 people on the website, or 16 with the Excel upload.
  • No phone or internet? There are tablets for it in the immigration hall on arrival.

What to carry

  • A passport with at least six months left on the day you arrive. Japanese and US passports need only be valid for the stay.
  • A confirmed ticket home, or a ticket on with a visa for the next country, and a confirmed seat on the flight out.
  • A formal passport. Emergency and temporary passports do not qualify, except US ones.
  • The stay is counted from the day after you arrive and cannot be extended, except for British and Canadian passports (up to 180 days). It cannot be turned into a visa except in a few cases, such as serious illness or a natural disaster.
  • The border officer must not find you otherwise ineligible.
