Day trips from Taipei
Three of the Tourism Administration's Taiwan Tourist Shuttle routes start at an MRT station. The fares below are the full adult fare.
Jiufen and Jinguashi
Bus 965 · 九份金瓜石線
- Board at MRT Ximen Station or MRT Beimen Station (towards Jinguashi, wait at Beimen exit 2; coming back, exit 1). The bus starts at MRT Fuzhong.
- Get off at Jiufen Old Street, or ride on to Jinguashi (Gold Museum). NT$90 from Taipei to either.
- A bus every 15 to 30 minutes on weekdays and every 10 to 30 at weekends, from 06:00 to 21:00 at MRT Fuzhong. The last bus back leaves Jinguashi at 21:00.
- Pay in cash or by EasyCard, iPASS, icash or Happy Cash, tapping on and off. The 09:00 bus out and the 16:00 bus back can be booked through the Taipei Fun Pass site.
Pingxi and Shifen
Bus 795 · 木柵平溪線
- Board at MRT Taipei Zoo Station. It stops at Shenkeng Old Street, Jingtong, Pingxi Old Street and Shifen Old Street.
- NT$45 to Pingxi or Shifen. By the weekday timetable, 1 h 5 min from the Zoo to Shifen Old Street.
- On weekdays the first bus that goes all the way to Shifen leaves at 05:00 and the last at 19:10; some early and late buses turn back at Pingxi.
The north coast to Yehliu
皇冠北海岸線
- Board at MRT Tamsui Station. It runs along the coast past Laomei Green Reef, the Ju Ming Museum and Jinshan Old Street to Yehliu Geopark.
- NT$90 to Yehliu, 1 h 51 min by the timetable. Six buses a day from Tamsui: 08:00, 09:15, 10:30, 12:30, 13:45, 15:00.
- May to October it runs every day; November to April only at weekends and on public holidays. On other days the route page suggests New Taipei city buses 862 and 863.
