Sanjiaodu Ferry Landing

Besides linking the settlements as a crossing, Sanjiaodu was a harbour where the working boats of local residents gathered: as well as farming on land, raising ducks by the river and raking clams and fishing in the river were important ways of making a living. Later, because of river regulation works, the landing's role gradually shrank and disappeared. The history of Sanjiaodu bears witness to the changes of the Tamsui River, and it is a place of historical significance. Sampans at Sanjiaodu quietly tell the story of the landing's past. The boatbuilder known as 阿正司 (Azheng) keeps them. He was born into a family of boatbuilders at Sanjiaodu in Jiantan, Taipei, learned boatbuilding at 17 and is one of the few builders of handmade dragon boats in Taiwan; he passes on the craft and its culture so that the memory of the waterfront can continue.
