About

For years, the 社團法人台灣視覺藝術協會 (視盟) and 悍圖社 (1998) were like nomads on horseback, with no home base and no ties, exhibiting at museums, galleries and art spaces in Taiwan and abroad, and working to develop, pool and monitor the resources available to the visual arts. The time came for the nomads to settle, and together they decided to have a home of their own from which to keep working for the art scene.

The two groups named the space FreeS 福利社, which can be read in several ways, such as 'free, shared souls, spaces and studios'. In keeping with their aim of serving artists and giving back to the art world, 悍圖社 and 視盟 programme some exhibitions themselves and open most of the exhibition slots to applications from artists and curators. They hope the space will show new ideas in art and exhibition-making, encourage a new generation of Taiwanese artists to explore art in depth, widen their outlook and create, and broaden artistic dialogue.
