About
With green hills behind it and the Keelung River in front, the shrine is the Republic of China's highest place of honour for those who died for the nation. Its group of buildings is modelled on the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City in Beijing.

The shrine holds a changing of the guard ceremony performed by the honour guards of the three armed services. The guards, drawn in turn from the army, navy and air force, wear crisp uniforms and carry gleaming rifles, and carry out the handover on the wide square with exact, precise steps. During the ceremony, which runs from the main gate to the main hall, their steady steps, the ringing of their boot studs and their difficult rifle drills show military bearing and discipline. At their posts the sentries must stand as still as statues, whatever the wind or sun.
