About
The school began as Dadaocheng Public School, founded in 1898. In 1909 the building of Taipingding Street (now Yanping North Road) split the site in two: the eastern campus became Dadaocheng First Public School (today Taiping Elementary School), and the western campus is today's Yongle Elementary School.

The school's well-known alumni include the artists Huang Tushui and Yang Sanlang and the businessman Koo Chen-fu. After the 228 Incident broke out in 1947, the school was used to hold people who had been arrested.
