National Taiwan Science Education Center

It stands next to the Taipei Astronomical Museum and the Children's Amusement Park, forming a close-knit science education cluster. The permanent exhibitions occupy floors 3 to 6 and cover life science, matter and energy, earth systems, mathematics and related fields of technology. The galleries use models, interactive equipment, multimedia and simulated settings to present abstract scientific ideas in a more concrete way and help visitors understand them through hands-on use. Some floors also have discovery stations, science games and themed display units, so that visitors of all ages can observe and experiment according to their interests. Besides the permanent exhibition, the centre puts on several special exhibitions each year on nature, technology, engineering and cross-disciplinary subjects. It also has multi-purpose classrooms, workshop spaces and a lecture hall for model-making, materials experiments, science crafts and talks, extending science education from display into practical learning. Its facilities combine demonstration and experience with scientific principles. The 'Sky Bicycle' uses a high wire to explain balance. Disaster-prevention and earthquake installations use a shaking platform to simulate earthquakes of different strengths, to improve understanding of earthquakes and disaster prevention. A children's discovery hall is designed for young children and lower-primary pupils, with an environment suited to their age. The centre has seating areas, a nursing room, accessible facilities and a car park.
