Sun Yunxuan Science and Humanities Memorial Hall

While he was Premier, many important decisions and policies were conceived here. After his death, in recognition of his contribution to Taiwan, the city's cultural affairs department designated it a municipal monument in 2006 and entrusted its management to 孫運璿學術基金會 so that the monument could be fully reused. The residence covers 866 ping (about 2,863 m²) and includes the historic building, a new annex and a garden. The historic building combines Japanese and Western styles. It has permanent displays on Taiwan's economic development and on Sun's personal life, and a special exhibition area with changing exhibitions. The new building, designed after the patterns of the historic one, is used for talks, performances and classes. The garden around the buildings has Sun's favourite fish pond, magnolias planted by his wife and tall old trees. The hall aims to honour Sun's dedication to public service and to offer a cultural space that is both traditional and modern, with depth yet easy to approach.
