Houzhan Shopping District

The area has pedestrian zones, and themed markets and design competitions are held regularly. In earlier years Taiwan's wholesale markets grew up around railway stations. Being easy to reach, the Houzhan area gradually drew clothing, accessory, leather goods and gift businesses, and became a starting point for wholesalers and independent brands. It was once known as the "base camp of general merchandise wholesale". Shops stand side by side, selling everything from fashion to small accessories, showing how Taipei's commerce moved from wholesale to more refined retail. Many old buildings and shops that have traded for decades remain, reflecting the area's history and the passing of generations, while newer shops bring in design, so old and new meet on the street. Traditional Taiwanese snack stalls and small restaurants serving food from other countries are found throughout the lanes. Nearby are Dadaocheng, Dihua Street and Ningxia Night Market, areas known for culture and food.
