About

Dadaocheng was originally home to the Pingpu peoples. Violent clan fighting involving the Tong'an people in Wanhua (Mengjia) drove them to settle in Dadaocheng, where they began building shops and houses beside the Tamsui River.

After Tamsui port opened, Dadaocheng, under the administration of Liu Mingchuan, became the busiest distribution centre for goods in Taipei, trading mainly in tea and cloth. Yanping North Road and Guide Street were then the centre of commerce.
