Chiang Wei-shui Memorial Park

Chiang Wei-shui was a fighter for democracy and a cultural pioneer in Taiwan, and much of his life's work took place in Dadaocheng, such as founding Da'an Hospital, founding the Cultural Association and setting up the main distribution office of the Minbao newspaper. To commemorate him, the Taipei City Government renamed the nearby Jinxi Park as Chiang Wei-shui Memorial Park. The park has a square stele at the entrance and a memorial archway. The side of the stele is carved with an account of Chiang's life written by the historian Zhuang Yongming, in Chinese, English and Japanese. The archway's design copies the Baroque style of the buildings on Dihua Street, echoing the character of the area. Above the inscribed front wall is a plaque reading 'Chiang Wei-shui Memorial Monument', and the columns on either side carry the slogan 'Compatriots must unite; unity is true strength', written by the calligrapher Pan Qingzhong. The park also has a pavilion, benches and play equipment.
