March is when Taipei's azaleas are in full bloom. Following Taipei's azalea viewing map brings you to the lanes of the Wenluoting area, whose quiet streets hide bookshops, cafes and small creative shops in many styles, from literary and retro to fresh and cosy.

During the Taipei Azalea Festival each year, local shops decorate their windows with colourful azalea stickers, so walking into the lanes feels like entering a sea of pink azaleas. In the language of flowers, the azalea stands for 'our promise'.
