The City Hall building that houses the Taipei City Government is one of the landmarks of the Xinyi Planning District, at the end of Ren'ai Road. Seen from above from Taipei 101, the building forms a 'double ten' shape.

The Taipei City Government is the city's executive body and was established in October 1945. On 1 July 1967 Taipei became a special municipality. After that, mayors were at first appointed, and from 25 December 1994 they were elected. Since then, to meet the urgent needs of city development, its structure has changed: outdated agencies have been abolished or merged, and many new agencies and schools have been set up.
