About
Since Cai Lun made paper from bark, hemp waste and rags in the Eastern Han dynasty, papermaking techniques have gradually developed to produce many kinds of fine paper. Chen Shuhuo, founder of the Changchun Cotton Paper Mill, spent decades in the trade and came to regret that 'paper was born of Chinese culture yet has not flourished in modern times', so he resolved to found a paper museum.

After five years of preparation, the museum opened in October 1995. Floor 1 has a shop and a hand-papermaking demonstration workshop. The shop sells contemporary design products and occasional themed items, while the workshop recreates the process of making paper by hand so that visitors can understand it. Floor 2 is an exhibition space that accepts exhibition proposals from outside. Floor 3 is a paper science area where families learn about paper through interactive displays and the five senses. Floor 4 is a papermaking area where anyone can make a sheet of paper to take home; recycled paper and environmental education are also promoted here, encouraging care for the Earth's resources.
