Songshan Cultural and Creative Park

The buildings are mainly in an early Japanese modernist style, simple yet refined, with clean lines, large windows and finely finished washed-stone facades. The factory stopped production in 1998. After it was designated a municipal historic site in 2001, the site was preserved and turned into a centre for contemporary culture and creative industries. The rows of former factory buildings and warehouses are now spaces for art exhibitions and performances, hosting international photography exhibitions, large design fairs and exhibitions of popular characters and franchises. At the heart of the park are Taiwan's first design-themed museum and many creative shops and studios in the former offices, where work by up-and-coming Taiwanese designers can be found. In the centre of the park is a Baroque-style garden with symmetrical fountains and landscaping. Beside it, the ecological pond (originally a fire-fighting reservoir) is home to egrets, turtles and many kinds of aquatic plants.
