About

This village is one of 13 military dependents' village preservation areas in Taiwan approved by the Ministry of National Defence, and one of the few complete dependents' villages remaining in Taipei. Its housing is closely tied to the development of the Beitou branch of the armed forces general hospital 三軍總醫院 (formerly the Beitou branch of the Japanese army garrison hospital).

It preserves intact the types of dependents' housing from different periods, and it brings together Beitou's particular history, hot-spring culture and memories of daily life, which makes it an important historical site in Beitou. In 2021 the foundation 財團法人台北市文化基金會 took over its operation. Through revitalising the spaces and residency programmes, it works on the preservation and redevelopment of the settlement, local history research and the study of dependents' village culture, gradually building a place of dependents' village culture and life with historical, educational and informative value. The village's role and main goal is to be the 'Taipei City base for the preservation of military dependents' village culture'. It links resources in the Xinbeitou area and promotes integration across the region, presenting the many stories of Beitou's communities.
