Taiwan Power Corporation President Hostel

After Taiwan's retrocession it served as a central government guesthouse and as the official residence of the Chairman of Taiwan Province. Surrounded by high walls, the residence is in a Western style, with a tiled roof, white walls and arched windows recalling the villas of Italy or Spain in southern Europe. Many senior officials' residences of the Japanese colonial period used various European house styles. The Western-style house has a garden and an arched entrance porch, with Greek-style columns inside as decoration. The staircase is wooden and the interior finish is simple. There were originally Japanese-style rooms at the back, later demolished. This pattern, a Western-style front with Japanese-style rooms attached behind, reflects how Japanese officials lived in Taiwan at the time.
