When the first railway from Keelung to Hsinchu was built in the Guangxu reign of the Qing dynasty, Songshan already had a simple ticket office. The Songshan area was developed early. It was originally a settlement of the Maolijihou community of the Ketagalan plains indigenous people, and its old name was Dajiana Xikou Street (大加納錫口街). In 1887 (the 13th year of the Guangxu reign), dragon-and-horse postage stamps were used in place of tickets.
