Its main building is itself a national monument, completed during the Japanese colonial period and combining Greek-style architecture with a Roman dome. It has a colonnade, fine carving and a large Roman-style dome above the entrance. In the high-ceilinged hall, sunlight falls through the dome's stained-glass skylight. The collections include specimens of plants and animals endemic to Taiwan, geological and mineral specimens, and ethnological collections, together presenting the island's biodiversity and cultural life.
