    "description_en": "On 17 January 1995, the Great Hanshin Earthquake, measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale, struck Japan. It killed 6,430 people and injured more than 40,000, over 510,000 buildings were destroyed or partly destroyed, and losses including public facilities came to about 10 trillion yen. In response, when the Taipei City Fire Department was established in its reorganised form on 10 July the same year, it began planning Taiwan's first disaster prevention science education centre, to improve public disaster education, let people experience disasters and help them understand the importance of preparedness. To help people understand the history and nature of different disasters, the museum uses computers and electronic and mechanical equipment to simulate disasters for visitors to try hands-on. The aim is to make emergency knowledge about fire, floods, earthquakes and typhoons part of daily life and to improve people's ability to respond, through learning that is also fun. It hopes visitors will pass on what they learn to family and friends, so that everyone can stay clear of disasters.",
